Youth Council of the Westshore

The Youth Council of the Westshore is a group of youth whose purpose is to make a change for the better in our community and schools that affect youth.

Our mission is to enrich the lives of youth in the Westshore. We will achieve this by coming up with ideas and collecting information from surveys to resolve real problems youth have.

The youth council will be entirely run by youth (with an adult facilitator at each meeting), and we are currently searching for members. We are accepting applications from any youth ages 11-17, although the council is geared toward the middle and early high school years. We are mainly accepting youth in the sd62 district. (Spencer Middle School, Dunsmuir Middle School, École John Stubbs Memorial School, Centre Mountain Lellum Middle School, Royal Bay Secondary School, Belmont Secondary School, ect.)

A new youth council of the Westshore has just formed and is accepting new members. The youth council will provide opportunities for youth to raise awareness and important issues in the community, and share youth perspective and experiences with the SD62 board of education, as well as municipal and provincial government.

The youth council is open to youth who are 11-17, live in the Westshore, and go to school in SD62. If you would like to apply but do not fit this criteria, please email us so we can assess your situation and let you know if you are fit to apply for a spot.

The council is completely run by youth.  The council is a collaborative setting however the co-chairs (who are in 8th grade) will run the meetings. Please note that there will be an adult facilitator at each meeting to supervise.
You sure can! As long as you live somewhat close to the Westshore, we are happy to have you!
We would love to start having meetings asap, but we need enough members to do so. We are not accepting all applications, but for that reason, the sooner you apply, the greater your chance is to be accepted.
